Converting a Python from DA to SA

Is an online guide to converting a Colt Python from double to single action for purposes of transfer? I found a page on web that mentioned removing three parts (strut, strut pin and spring) but I have no idea as to how simple that is to do and then replace.

The list of parts are found at:

ColtParts.com is the premier seller of factory original Colt replacement parts for your Colt rifles, pistols, revolvers and other firearms.

You need to remove #36- the pin needs to come out to remove it, and the spring will fall out if it is removed.

You would have to pull the whole gun apart to do it.

DO NOT work on a Python if you are not a confident smith. If you had to ask, I would get a pro to do it.

If you mess something up it will get expensive real quick.

For a quick overview (if I remember right)-

    Remove grips
Remove leaf spring *tools/ingenuity may be required
    Remove sideplate
    Remove hammer block
Remove hammer *manipulating both trigger and hammer may be necessary
    Remove strut

It's been awhile, but that's the general idea. If you're really lucky someone would have made a youtube video for disassembly.

Be very careful if you decide to try it yourself.

At a MINIMUM get yourself a good set of gunsmith screwdrivers (hollow ground bits or tips). It will keep you from boogering the screws up.
Consider buying the Kuhnhausen book on Colt revolver gunsmithing- this has WAY more info than you'll ever need, and I've never regretted buying a good reference manual..

I've worked on a Pyton or two- inside they're like a clock, delicate and complicated. By comparison, I can work with S&Ws in my sleep.

Disclaimer: I've never done this myself, just something i ran across a while back and tagged for future reference.
