(not sure if im on the right place to post) but for those of use that love the actual build part of guns im just wanted to know if there anybody out there thinking of producing a 80% scar reciver. from my understanding the upper is the registered part of the gun. and a stripped upper right now goes for about 700-900$ depending on model. i guess what im saying is how many ppl are interested in a 80% and what would your concern be going about building a scar 16 or 17!! oh and one more thing would be the legality of copying a design from the manufacture if its patent, im unsure if it is or not.

Patents are usually only valid for 7 years, so depending on when the Scar was first released, count down from there.
A lot of that gun is polymer, so that might be problematic in creating an "80%" version of it, but if some entity has the money to invest in the molds..... I would buy one

Patents do not prevent someone copying then for personal use.
That said, if you really want a homebuilt SCAR, just build one from scratch. There is no rule requiring you to start with an 80%, 72%, 48%, etc.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

just wounding if the hype would be there in 80% just like the ar... and yeah buying a scar would be faster but i enjoy the build part more then i like shooting. and as for coping thanks for clearing that up, so from what im understanding is that a patent object has to be 20% diffrent so if someone was to make a 80% that 20% is missing and the end user finishes it for personal use correct ??Comment

i seen those myself but you are not saving any money on it if your trying to go the less expensive route. Its cheaper to buy a complete rifle, if you by part by part you will spend more than a complete rifle cost.(not sure if im on the right place to post) but for those of use that love the actual build part of guns im just wanted to know if there anybody out there thinking of producing a 80% scar reciver. from my understanding the upper is the registered part of the gun. and a stripped upper right now goes for about 700-900$ depending on model. i guess what im saying is how many ppl are interested in a 80% and what would your concern be going about building a scar 16 or 17!! oh and one more thing would be the legality of copying a design from the manufacture if its patent, im unsure if it is or not.ehhhComment

in no way is it cheaper to build a 80% i know that but i just love the whole build part then actually shooting. i have built a of 80% and not just ar 80% but other variuos paperweight.. but it seem there is some interest in the scar. if anyone has detail pic and blueprints i would love to see them..Comment

I had this urge a while back too... then I found out that it's the upper that is serialized, not the lower. Plus, there aren't a million companies making SCAR parts.
It would be like welding up a car frame, then buying all of the parts from the dealership to build a car.... way more expensive than just buying one. Though home builds are never cheaper, the SCAR would be considerably more so.Comment

Well you could do a SCAR look alike.
A moded AR15 would do the trick. How moded is up to you. but it could be done.
I wonder what all these AR nuts are going to do when they figure out the SCAR has a AK gas system or at least something like the Galil.Comment

The SCAR is over rated. It is a Call of Duty rifle. Reality is it sucks. It is the current flavor of the month, I have shot the heck out of it. I have used the MK16 and Mk17. The Mk16 is junk..... the Mk17 isn't that bad but to be honest the ergonomics are bad. You have to run the gun wet or it will fail to feed and jam.
My 2 cents. Buy a 308 upper and build your own Rifle. Out of a 80% Lower.Comment
