Is there a gunsmith in the SF bay area tha can work on my Shotgun?
The problem is unless you keep the "button held down while cycling a round" nothing happens.
I was once told that the fix would be more expensive that the purcahse of a new Mossberg.
Any sugestions?

Is this the slide release you are talking about? Have you disasembled the shotgun and cleaned out the trigger group? If needed a replacement group is about $60.

Probably needs an elevator adjustment.
Not familiar with these but symptom sounds like a probable common cause.
