    Inconsistant Sig 230

I've had this gun for a about 15 years and I LOVE IT!!!!

It's a beautiful piece, shoots well and is really accurate.

I probably have about 1,200 rounds through it, and last year it started misfiring

The very first time it happened, as I was cleaning it I found a sliver of lead that had peeled off of a round and lodged on the face of the chamber which I thought at the time was preventing the slide from closing all the way and resulting on light strikes to the primer.

This weekend I was having the same problems again and looked at the primers of the misfires and fires. The misfires occur in the single action and the double action strikes harder and impacts the primer deeper.

Any ideas on what to do?

    I'm a little baffled.

Have you ever removed the firing pin for cleaning? Powder residue can build up and reduce firing pin protrusion which results in light strikes.

Unless some parts are broken, a thorough cleaning and lube will usually clear up operating maladies in autopistols. During disassembly any broken parts should become evident.

SIG pistols are reliable and I have never had any parts breakage. However, it's probably a good idea to consider ordering replacement recoil and hammer springs while you have it apart. SIG offers replacement springs as does Wolff Gunsprings http://www.gunsprings.com/Semi-Auto%...D1/mID4/dID255

I have not removed the firing pin to clean it. I guess the build up could add a percentage of resistance that would only affect the single action.

That was a level of detail that I only do to my AR. I'll look it up on the internet and give it a shot.

I'll order the springs before I tear into it.

        Thanks
