Unfamiliar territory...

So I dug out my old H&R Topper SS and then remembered in short order why it was tossed in the deepest darkest corner of the vault. It is currently just a frame and barrel, but I have plans! My question is this, I am missing (not sure of its proper name) the nut that was previously welded/attached to the barrel that receives the screw to hold the forend in place. Is this "nut" something that can be welded or reattached without damaging the barrel or should I seek out a smith. I'm not even sure where I would find a replacement piece.

Don't know how thick the barrel steel is...I'm always nervous about welding on barrels. I'd imagine brazing would be a good option. Probably best to consult a gunsmith.

I made one some time ago and tig welded it to the barrel. worked fine as long as you control the heat. You can get carried away. But a shot gun is low PSI anyway so not worried about it.
