Need an AK gunsmith

I bought an AK, a Saiga AK-47 (Arsenal SGL23-61) a few months ago and have come to the conclusion that I just can't deal with the California compliant magazine release any longer. Essentially, it requires a special tool to remove the magazine - not just a bullet like with my other AKs.

Sacramento Black Rifle told me what parts I need to buy to make the switch to a normal bullet button and I now have those parts.

Now I just need someone skilled with AKs to actually do the work.

Jim, I was looking at that model as well as a couple others. How you diggin the SGL? Satisfied your AK needs, no issues, save for the bb? I'm out of Sac too, would love to check it out

That was quick...found a gunsmith.

As to your question Schutz, the gun is fantastic except for one thing...the magazine release. It is not a normal bullet button. The only way to get the magazine out is with a custom tool that comes with the rifle or a screw driver.

It's a nightmare. Avoid this gun for that reason.

Don't know yet. It's one of those things where I'll find out after it's done...in 2 weeks or so.

Two weeks?? I hope he's tied up with other stuff because it's about an hour and a half's worth of work at the most.
Either replace the mag catch or the whole trigger guard.

Yes, that was my impression...backlog. The shop I brought it to takes time to get things done but so far I never have to worry about whether it's going to be done right.

Well being tied up with work means they should have a good rep then.

I did the same thing with my SGL 33, it now wears a ST BB. Just keep in mind that by removing their BB you'll void your warranty on the rifle.

Voiding a warranty to replace some weak *** manufactures button with a standard... Talk about reaching. I swear, people, companies, etc, always trying to get out of their commitments.

Any gunsmith that does not have a backlog and does a job on the spot that takes more than a few minutes might not be busy for a reason
