Mini 30 and Wolf Ammo

Does anyone know where and how to upgrade the hammer spring on a Mini 30 so that it will fire consistently a bearded primer?

3. Is Wolf the only ammo you're having trouble with?

You should consider you may have a firing pin problem. The Mini hammer has a helluva spring from the factory. I don't see it giving light strikes. You should try some different ammo for fun, check your firing pin, or if you have an aftermarket stock without the screw in the side, the reciever might not be back in the stock far enough when you lock the trigger group down.

Try that and then look for a decent Mini gunsmith. I can point you in the right direction if you don't mind shipping your barrel'd action.

I assumed the OP meant "Berdan" and got confused about primers and facial hair.

Although I think Wolf 7.62x39 ammo is Boxer primed.

I would check the chanber and bolt to make sure both are clean. Most people don't really clean the chamber well which can cause the rifle to fail to go into battery. In this case the gun is not firing to prevent a kaboom. I have heard that Laquer Thinner is used to remove the gunk commie ammo leaves behind in a non chromed chamber. You may have to take the bolt apart to clean the hole the firing pin moves in, which might not be in the owners manual and require special tools to avoid lost parts.

i had a lot of wolf not want to go off but lately my mini firing pin touches off a good 98% of them just fine

you may just have a batch that the primers are not as sensitive

Wolf has hard primers and are set deeper in the pocket than a lot of other commercial ammo, so you may need to relieve your bolt face, or find a longer firing pin to get it to strike deep enough (at least that's what some AR guys are doing w/ Wolf .223)

Not all mini's have a .308 bore. Ruger started making them with the proper .310 bore about 10 yrs ago.

Ruger will actually tell you the bore diameter and the year of changeover if you call them and give them a serial #

wolf ammo in a semi auto is not a good idea. if you get the stuff with the laquer or whatever it is after alot of rounds the stuff actually melts off of the case and gums up your chamber making the next round tighter and tighter. it will eventually make a round stick inside the chamber. that happend to me and i dont use wolf in my ar, i do use it in my sks.

The "laquer" issue was only an issue when wolf first came out. They now use a polymer coat. and it was only an issue if you didn't keep your chamber clean and like to just do repeated mag dumps. For casual plinking wolf works great in a mini-30. I put several thousand rounds of wolf through mine before I had it worked over.
