How tight should the screw that holds the stock to the rifle be? Inch pounds?

I was always taught that if you have the three screw (two piece) bottom metal then the front and back screws should be tightened to 25 - 30 in Lbs and the middle screw should be tightened to just hold it in place. If the middle screws is tightened down it can push the magazine box up and bind the action.
If you have the two screw (one piece) bottom metal, both screws should be torqued to 40 - 60 in Lbs.Frank

You are obviously correct then. I was taught the above for the New Haven M70s but that doesn't mean the people who taught me were correct.Interesting; I was just going off whats printed in the Winchester Model 70 Rifle Owner's Manual http://media.winchesterguns.com/pdf/...61_model70.pdf
