    AK build?

I wanna build a standard looking ak 47 but with all synthetic stock, all i have is a pre bent reciver and i dont mind doing a screw build, my question is what would it cost to complete it and am i better off buying a pre built. I do have access to tools, torch, welder, duracoat, shop press. (i work in a auto repair shop)
    Thank you all in advanced

Buy a romi parts kit from ak-builder.com about $330, I would do a rivet build they are fairly easy, tapco trigger $30, rivets and center support $16, then you need one more US part, furniture, muzzle or mag parts. for under $500 you should be able to build one.
Screw builds have been done but you will hear a lot of flack here about the suggestion. There is a lot of people on here that can help just depends where you live, good luck.

Terminology-wise, if you want to build from a sheet metal receiver, you are probably building an AKM sporting rifle, not an "AK47". Cost is not why you build, it can be very tough to put a rifle together for less than the cost of a Romanian WASR for example. Build for the sake of building and for the control in parts selection, and of course the immense satisfaction it offers.

You don't need a torch and the kind of welder you need is a spot welder for welding in the rails of a receiver flat or receiver blank, but if you buy say, a Nodak Spud you won't have to worry about welding at all. You are probably better off doing a rivet build. If you have to you can hammer them in, though perfectly usable tools are available that make perfect rivet heads with less than perfect technique. The press will be useable for squishing rivets if you can fab some basic tools. Review the tutorials 69Mach1 created and you should be good to go.

Can you guys recommend a rivet tool for the home builder that won't break the budget? Hopefully one you have experience with. Thanks!

I bought the gunthing.com rivet jig and my home made one worked a little better. So far the ak-builder one seems to work the best it avoids the walking when doing the long rivets

OP, I would wait for a build party. They will have all the correct tools and the knowledge to put a safe firearm together. For parts kits check out - What A Country. They have Romy G's with the original barrel. What ever kit you go with make sure that the barrel is installed. As others have said building your own isn't for cost savings. It is for the enjoyment of knowing you put it together with your own blood, sweat and tears.

100% agree, wait for a build party. Check for them in the wtb/services offered forum. The things you will learn...plus the expertise you can lean on...and it is a blast! IMO

$12.00 Harborfreigt bolt cutters, grind your own. For the long rivets, a ball peen hammer.
