Glock mags

I'm sure that this has been asked before, but what is the trick to removing Glock mag base's?

Click the link. I purchased one of these. Makes things much easier. The older non full metal lined are easy. The newer full metal lined are a real pain. Takes a bit of work. This tool helps quite a bit, and will not allow you to crush the sides in, which can happen using a pair of vice grips or pliers.

The first thing you will have to do is push the tab button that sticks out from the bottom and get the tab to slide sideways into the magazine body. Then use the tool to squeeze the sides in and then slide the base plate off.

If the side retention lock nobs are tight they wont slide off easily, I usually slip a small flat screw driver or blade and apply side pressure while sliding it off, be careful not to damage the base. You can also heat it up I think. If they are tight they can be difficult. Luck.

Thanks just ordered one. Sure wish Glock had made them easy to disassemble like everyone else did.

Yes I clean my all my mags regularly, especially after qual shoots, the range is near a beach and there is quite a bit of fine sand.

I lack the hand strength to push in the sides of the mag enough to clears the tabs, so I use a small C-clamp. I use a bit of rag to keep the clamp from scratching the mag. It's then easy to push in the tab on the bottom and remove the plate in the usual way. No big deal.

Same here, just don't crush the mag while doing it. I only compress enough to relieve the pressure but not so much that the base plate just slides off. It still snaps off.

Very difficult to do that on new mags in my experience. (I put finger extensions on 5 new g27 mags) I've had to squeeze them in a vise to clear the side tabs, the c clamp idea prolly works even better.

Very bad idea to squeeze a glock magazine body until the side tabs clear. Much better to use a small punch and push the tab button in and then push the tab “sideways” into the magazine body. Once that is completed, the sides can be squeezed in enough to be able to slide the bottom off.
