    Blackthorne AR Rifle Kits

Yes, I know they get a lot of hate, but has anyone here ever bought one? Any pics? I'm trying to build the cheapest possible AR build, but it's almost impossible to find a complete upper with bolt that's cheaper than the $369 they're charging for an entire kit minus the lower.

Also, if anyone has a used one to sell, PM me!

It's not hate that Hesse/Vulcan/Blackthorne gets, it's complaints from paying customers that their product is crap. I've never bought a Hesse product, I wouldn't think of buying one, but I've got several of them running for folks who got suckered in by Hesse marketing.

You will get a cheap kit from H/V/B, but that's what you want. There's also a very good chance that your cheap kit will be a POS. Almost a 100 per cent chance that if you end up with a POS, H/V/B won't care. The stories you read on the web have been true for years, and they continue to be true.

Balance the POS factor with the cheap factor and take it from there. How long will it take you to save up another hundred bucks or so to get something at least decent??

I have a 7.62x39 upper and lower parts kit from Blackthorne, mated to a CMMG lower. Works just fine.

369.00 for an entire kit? That's way too cheap for comfort.

Yea I kind of question Blackthorne. They claim to be running 60 days behind on all orders, but yet they have over a dozen kits up for auction on GunBroker ready to go.

If they can't fill the orders that they have already charged credit cards for because they don't have parts, how can they sell complete kits at auction. Seems a little unethical to me. Smoke and mirrors?

I have one of their AR-10 uppers using an Armalite BCG. Works great, but is pretty hard on brass.

I don't doubt they go bang.

I just wonder why anyone would spend money with a company that has the mannerisms of a pig. Taking a poo in the same trough you eat from will sooner or later leave you with nothing but poo.

maybe they are waiting for other companies to reject out of spec parts so blackthorne can buy enough of them to fill the back orders.

My first AR was a blackthorne kit. Shoots fine. No markings on uppers or barrels so its possible it's second rate didn't-make-the-cut kinda stuff... but as far as I can tell it shoots fine. If you're desperate to get a working rig going, this is not a bad way to go. I wouldn't bank on this being your go-to battle rifle but it gets the job done. Its dirt cheap too. The bolt actually seems like its pretty good quality though you may want to restake the gas key... easy enough to do. The reason why they ship slow now is because they're lean on bolt assemblies. CAVEAT EMPTOR: Whoever is in packing and shipping doesn't care about how your order gets to you. Poorly packed... like everything tossed in a box and then covered with two pieces of newspaper on top which I guess is supposed to protect the products from gathering dust inside a sealed box.

I have been checking with Del-Ton off and on since I originally posted. They seem to be a much more customer oriented business. They are still running 6-12 weeks on orders.
