Does anybody know what the ruling is on the pistol grip/butt stock on a PSL for 922r? Does it count as one part or two? Thanks in advance for your input.

The thumbhole stock on a psl counts as one foreign part. The general concensus seems to be that the PSL does not need to comply with 922r since there are no commercially available "high" capacity magazines and the atf doesn't consider the thumbhole stock to be a pistolgrip(think of all those hideous stocks on the mak90's, maadi's, and FEG's. same deal). I don't think an opinion letter exists on that however so...take that however you want.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events. -
So does that mean that I can use all original FCG parts and not worry? The thumbhole stock on a psl counts as one foreign part. Like I said before the general consensus is yes...but let me backpedal again and say that AFAIK there is no official opinion from the alphabet gang on that point.

I ran into this same question when building mine. I just went ahead and went 922 because I wanted the Tapco trigger group along with the Rhineland Arms PSL stock set so I was already at 5 pieces. And from my findings is that it was a importable sporting rifle without the bayonet lug. Seeing as PSL's were available in original configuration with only the bayonet lug ground down.Originally posted by fighterpilot562I am more of a sucker than a blower...Comment

Thanks guys. I think I'll use all of the original parts then. Hopefully it all works out.Not really gun related but check out my friends' blog: basbrow.comComment

The original PSL trigger and hammer provide a nice 2 stage pull.Far better than a regular AK.You know exactly when it will release.IMO this is a feature that you would want to retain in a rifle designed for longer range shooting.Comment

To each their own but a two stage trigger is almost never used on a long range rifle. The Best triggers in the world on the best snipper rifles in the world are all single stage with minimal take up and minimal over travel.
Now a battle rifle is a different story. Those should all be two stage triggers.
If on my AK's and AR's had the trigger pull of my M1 Garand.Comment

I'm pretty sure the PSL is a battle rifle.I'm also sure that they ALL came with those triggers, which are far superior to the standard AK trigger pull.So I guess at least a few long range rifles do come with a two stage trigger pull(unless Mr.Scott doesnt think tens of thousands of rifles are a good number,or that the PSL is a longer range AK).The only reason I brought it up is that it seems many people dont know this, and think it is just a standard AK type trigger group.Simply looking at it,you might not notice the little bump at the tip of the contact area.It was off topic for the thread, but replacing the trigger group was mentioned, and if you are considering 922r it is logical to assume this is the direction one may be headed.Comment

I do appreciate the info on the trigger. So if I go with the "standard" setup, I don't need to worry about 922r, but what about the mag lock? Will I need one of those? Not really gun related but check out my friends' blog: basbrow.comComment

Yes, you do, unless you fill the thumb hole on the stock.
Sucks about the bayonet lug - my kit came with it, and I've no intention of removing it. Red Star Arms, here I come.DiaHero Foundation - helping people manage diabetes. Sending diabetes supplies to Ukraine now, any help is appreciated.

Unless you somehow eliminate the "pistol style grasp", yes. Do keep in mind that 922r is federal and the mag lock is a state issue. Neither one will negate the other.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

I did not build my PSL with any 922r. I was going to install a Tapco trigger in mine and was having trouble with it. Thanks Hawaii five-0 for putting the original trigger group back in for me.May those that love us, love us.
And those that don't love us,
May God turn their hearts.
And if He doesn't turn their hearts,
May He turn their ankles
So we will know them by their limping.
