Make your own BB?

My question is can you legaly make your own bullet button ? If so do you have to follow any giude lines ? Does it have to be a coppy of a allready Ca. approved desighn ? Any help would be grate i have an idea but it isnt like any BB ive seen .

One there is no California approved design. The DOJ will not issue any such determination.

All you have to do is follow the rules that are outlined in the definition of a fixed Magazine

1. The magazine can not be removed without the use of a tool(s) or the firearm must partially or completely disassembled to remove the magazine.

Also the Tool can not be attached to the weapon and still be used to detach the magazine.

I've been making my own for years. They work fine just turned them on lathe. Found springs at b&t industrial. Found 10/32 threaded alum.rod at hobby shop. Cost 2 bucks in material and the time spent at lathe according to my friends is occupational therapy for a moron.

I used a rubber washer and a nut from my son's skateboard trucks to lock the mag in. Not practical for dropping mags, but kept me legal. This was way before the AR "craze" started. I didn't find out about the bullet button until I found it in CalGuns.

I am all for innovation but I have to ask, what is your time worth?

For me, $20 is just too cheap to justify reinventing.

The first maglocks were all homemade. The first one I saw was in '04. It was nothing more than a nylox nut holding the mag in place.

I don't machine for a living it is recreational. I am making a muzzle brake /barrel extension now for 11" stainless 6.8 spc barrel that I can't find barrel extension to weld on. Making a lightweight 16 " barrel pig gun. Putting aimpoint on it, Have a 20" 6.8 that is tack driver will use it for deer and hogs.

It's too late now but I would have rethought that one.
The weight savings is nil, and your accuracy may be effected due to the add length to be legal. I'd just put a 14.5" barrel on it and weld on a muzzle brake this way you get every bit of velocity you can and still have a decent muzzle brake and be light in weight.

What are you saving a half pound in weight?? Cause you're not gaining anything in length.

By my calculations a 5" section of barrel is about one pound. So whatever you put on the end of the barrel need to be considerably less then one pound to make a difference.

Please keep in mind that anything stuck on the end of the barrel if not completely obvious may be construed to be a suppressor. Be carful in what you build.

I got the barrel with bolt cheap and I know what is legal. Will do complete upper without optics for $300 in 6.8 spc w ff tube and stainless barrel.

I could open up to 5/8" 28 tpi and it would work. If my stainless brake gives me trouble I'll get it thanks. I am doing an 11.5 ar 15 now with 5.5 f/h will get this instead takes away an evil feature.

If you have a tap sure or someone with a lathe. And there are other versions out there this was just the first thing the google threw up.

I'd rather have a muzzle brake to me it looks better and takes an evil feature away from completed firearm. I am putting a maxi grip on so I don't need a bullet button on the 6.8.It will have no evil features. Could even use it for 3 gun but would have to die my brass
so I could find it easier. To expensive to leave for the range monkees.
