    Beadblast or paint stripper?

I need to remove the "cammo" paint from our L1A1 lower receiver. What's the best way to do it? Anyone know where I can get black stove paint? My understanding is its the correct finish for a Brit L1A1. Here's what it looks like right now.

Still have some work to do, but its getting there!

Media blasting will also give you a nice rough finish for the stove paint to adhere to.

I'd bead blast then get some semi flat Rust o lium enamel paint. Then bake the receiver at 250 for an hour or so.

iPhone pic (I need a real camera)

3 coats semi flat rustoleum engine enamel. Bake in oven at 250 for 3 hrs. Let completely cool in oven. I've had good results so far. YMMV.

That looks real good, but I'm not sure my wife would go for it. Did it smell bad? If it makes her chocolate chip cookies taste like paint, I'm toast.

^^^ HAHA... I forgot to mention after you paint let it dry for an hour and then stick it in the oven. If you have a heat gun, use that before the oven and a lot of the paint smell will go away. You can smell it while it's in there, but food tastes fine after.

I think the best solution, would be to use a can of 3M Tal-Strip paint remover. The stuff is amazing, and won't harm the metal. Just make sure you remove everything else, first.

Media blasting does wonders in both time saved and giving a nice consistent finish that allows paints to really stick hard. I recently did a model 1894, had it blasted then I just followed up with an acetone wipe down. If you have access to an airbrush I'd recommend KG gunkote. Stuff is amazing and super durable.
