    Ruger Blackhawk

I got a little bored and took it apart. How do you get the mainspring back in the pin I had in the hole popped out. Or should I just take it in and have a pro do it?

It takes some muscle and a spare pair of hands wouldn't hurt either.

If you have a bench vise it can make it a little easier. I just part the vice jaws enough to slip the spring guide past them. Put on a heavy glove and push down. Insert the pin back in the hole and away you go.

I got it back in but now the hammer won't work so i'm going to take it in and have it looked at. hopefully I don't get too much crap about what I did when I take it in.

you won't be the first to bring a bag of parts into a gunsmith.

Sounds like you put the strut in upside down. The pin hole goes at the bottom of the grip frame (you already know that) but the strut itself can be turned on its axis. You will see that the end that goes in the notch in the hammer is kinda bent at the end. You will know when you have it in right becasue the hammer will cock.

As a tip. Since this is a new model (?) blackhawk you need to have the cylinder pin in when you do this. The cylnder pin has a little detent spring in the end that when in place allows the transfer bar safety to move. Without the cylinder pin in the safety will not move corrtly and the hammer will not cock right. This makes you think automatically that you have the hammer spring strut in upside down Been there many times even after I knew better

LOL! Sorry, but it reminded me of my days working at the gun shop. My partner would call me up and say, "Hey, I got another shoe box full of gun parts, need I say more?"

I can look at my SBH as a reference if you need it. I can take pictures too.
