    WELL SCREWED THAT ONE UP

to all the calgunners who have been with me and helping me build my ak74. i have a very sad news. i botched the job. i manage to make a rivet jaw whiched worked great for the front trunions. i manage to headspace my 74. while i was on th ephone with mike from solar tactical he was telling me that even though i have a brand new bulgy barrel. just make sure align it and install the barrel pin. and it it's tight and the bolt wont close. just file some of the locking lug of the bolt. it actually worked. now the big problem is when i was getting ready to use the riveting gun on the center support. i pressed down and pressed the riveting gun and it jumped and hit my reciver and dented it all up.REAL BAD. to make matters worst it warped by reciver even though my reciver is hardened the riveting gun is like and impact wrench and warped my reciever while the support bushing held in place. now im back to square one. im demilling my reciever tonight. heading over to solar tactical tomorrow to buy another flat and trunion set. anyone local got a bending jig i can come by and have my flat folded. ofcourse ill do the folding as to be legal..

also if anyone out there want to sell their ak building tools. im the perfect guy to unload them to. so yes im in the market

sry to hear about your trouble. You can even use a simple ball peen hammer to do the center support more carefully.

I hope Mike didn't tell you to file on the locking lugs???

There is no reason on gods green earth to file on locking lugs.

Unless of course you work at the kalashnikov factory.

Sorry for your other misfortune I dinged up my receiver doing the exact same thing but I only nailed it two or three times at low pressure before I caught it.

That crossed my mind on the first build. Someone on another forum actually heated the rivets first before going that route. The screw build we did for my buddies center support piece works great. But I want to rivet

How much do you think you took off?? or I should ask how long were you filling on it??

The problem is it's just a bad idea. How do you know you took the same amount off the other side to get equal or at least close to equal contact?? Now way possible with a file. One lug could be taking all the load and you may have problems with extraction or just damage to the bolt due to unequal loading of the lugs. I would have recommended bumping the barrel forward and going up in pin diameter. That is the proper way to do it.
Now that would be fine as a Khyber pass technique though.

You can buff that out and straighten it, filing lugs... Can't undo that easily...

I can be stubborn, weld over ther worst of it and buff it out. Since you have your own kiln, anneal it first so it is easier to work on.
