1st Duracoat...texture issue

Thin it out a bit. I use a Pasche AB, don't recall the tip/needle size but I alway thin it out a bit and never have an issue.

i recommend not using sand as a blast media as it's super abrasive and rough grit. if you have a blasting cabinet i suggest investing in glass beads. gives you a nice sating finish and rough enough for parkerizing or duracoating. when i first started i had the same issue

Unfortunately, I don't have access to a blast cabinet with glass bead.

i can tell you exactly what happened, 1 of 2 things either your angle changed from angled to the side slightly moving in an arc to directly over the surface and passing to another angle (allows the spray to group in one area) or you got to close/far away while spraying (explains the differences in textures) I have done this a few times. a little sanding and respraying with attention to angle and distance from the surface and your golden!

Hah thanks guys. I took a chance on it and it turns out I dig it too. The trick is going to be figuring out how to make the matching forend work with whatever upper I land on.

After looking at the pics that is definately a uneven rough surface.

What was the final grit/mesh size and type of media you used????

To have a good smooth in appearance finish when painting the final sand blast or sanding media should be a min. of 320 grit ...... 400 grit max.

Anything higher and the paint will not stick to well, anything lower and you get results like yours.

If you don't have the right safety equipment ( blast cabinet or tight sealing goggles and a filtered respirator) to use the fine grit blasting media then you will have to use sand paper and hand sand.

I've never used Duracoat myself, but the Duracoat website says this problem can happen if silicone is present. They even say if it is in a sealed tube anywhere in the same room as you are spraying. I'm not sure if that could be what happened here but they make a big deal about it on the website.

Wow, That is just amazing looking! I love the (purple??) laminate... always kinda liked purple guns... I actually have purple goddess duracoat that I really want to shoot, I just don't have any guns that are ready for purple yet.
