Loose Rear Sight Cover on M1

    Guys,

I've just about got my M1 cleaned up for its debut tomorrow. One potential problem I see is that the rear sight cover is loose and allows the rear sight aperture to wiggle. I have the sight apart and it seem the rear sight cover has a lot of play up front where it fits to the receiver. Is this a common problem? Is shimming it the best way to fix it? Any help is much appreciated.

The quick and easy fix is to try to bend the cover so you have some tension.. other than that.. buy a new cover.. $8 + $2 shipping... (I have a few on hand)

Thanks, I was thinking about that but didn't want to screw the cover up if I was wrong. I'm excited about taking her out!

Thanks for the help. I flattened the cover a bit and snapped it back in, the rear sight works perfectly now with no wiggle!

I'm very happy with how the rifle shot. She is an old IHC "Frankenrifle" with a VAR barrel, but I was able to print sub 2 MOA groups with Greek Ball which is just about the best I have been able to shoot anything with iron sights over the past year. I'm sure that in more capable hands it could do better!
