considering buying a Bulgy 74 barrel from solar tactical, does their barrel have to populated or headspaced?

All stripped, virgin, surplus barrels require headspacing and the components mounted and pinned on. Sometimes gas ports have to be drilled also.

Solar states there pulled barrels. That means there original barrels pulled off surplus bugy riffles. You will still need to head space the barrel to the parts kit they send you. You will also need to use a press to press on the parts. Your looking at work that needs to be sent out to do .If you have the tools to do it your self you can try that as well.

Only original headspaced stuff you will find is romy g kits, ak-builder kits, or original barreled kits from private sellers. Get whatever kit you want, personnaly the mose value atm are found in the barreless amd, bulgy 74s, matching romys, and egyptians. Even with the cost of US or Romy barrel and cost of population from me or any other reputable populaion service. You are getting a deal. So i say pick up w/e kit you want and get it done!

I have had no issues with arms of america barrels or the romy barrels .... buy in confidences from them.

I have heard a lot of good reports that the pulled Bulgarian AK74 barrels will head space correctly without having to go to a larger barrel pin. Same thing for the components. Basically the results are almost as good as building on an original barrel kit except you have to press the components back onto the barrel.

I went with the Arms of America barrels only because the pulled barrels went way up in price when I needed them. The Arms of America barrels are good to go however and I am very satisfied with mine.

Identify the model that you like and get it. All of them are the same in regards to what needs to be done... some require a bit more, some a bit less. In the end, it's what you want, not what people tell you that you want.

Well I guess I came off as a douche the first time since my responce got deleted Lmao let me try again

Yes the barrel will need to be head spaced and populated. You might get lucky and it will head space perfectly to the notch in the barrel. If not you will have to get an oversized barrel pin, drill and reamer. Head space it, drill and ream then push in barrel pin.
                    Hope this helps.

Only in about 3 times in 50 of these bulgy barrels have I seen the HS to be where the factory notch was. The ones I've seen recently from ST look "pulled" because of the notches, but they are all brand new from my experience. You can tell by no scratch marks and perfect parkerizing like in their product photos.
