    Interesting AK blank from Henderson...

I'd personally rather do one of the Polish blanks for a bit of added authenticity, and I'm not a fan of glued on templates, but...this would be just about the easiest for somebody to complete at home without having a spot welder or bending jig.

Did you build it? How did it come out?

wouldn't you need to headspace the barrel, if it doesn't come with the original barrel?

I was given one for free recently and gave it away. I just isn't worth the work, especially at THAT price. Take it to a BP and everyone with a flat will be done before you.

If it's because it's bent already, I have a hard time believing anyone in CA is farther than an hour from a member with a jig and press they would offer both up for $20 or less for 5 minutes of work.

I just hate seeing people ripped off. Even the Polish at $25 + $8 rails is pushing it. Anyone wonder why Henderson doesn't post pictures of the bottom of the 80%??? Yep, more work than just drilling holes.

Ah capitalism. At least if these rails don't line up with your trunions, you don't have as hard a time fixing it as with a HT'd NDS.

I bought one a few years ago and built it in to a pistol. It is definately not worth the time. There are tons of holes to drill and then you have to cut out the magwell, trigger hole, pistol grip hole, and selector slot. Then you have to trim the top rail. It is a few hours of work. Most of the people that I have seen at build parties have a hard enough time trying to drill the holes for their trunnions let alone a whole receiver. I still have you that I haven't built. The only reason I kept it is because I'm building a 9mm AK and I can cut the mag well to fit whatever mag I use.

yup akbuilder flats are way less work, every thing is cut out, top rails are trimmed. just bend, tac weld and rivet, and your done in a couple hours.

as far as the trunnion holes i bought a pair of those cool pliers from slamfire51 for marking the hole locations it takes about 2 min to drill them out.

I bought a Romy G kit (whatacountry)and a Polish lower hand guard (apex), after re-finishing the furniture set using the sticky at the top of the gunsmithing forum, you can't tell that it did not come as a set. Worked out great for me as I did not want the forward grip either.

A flat is much less work, and the magwell/trigger pocket/pistol grip nut hole are already cut. Now, if one lives outside of CA, where BPs are few and far between, and he only wants to build one AK (and so doesn't want to invest in a bending jig, doesn't have/want a spot welder, etc.), then I see how this blank would be a good idea. For us in CA... nah.

A drill index, a set of red and green snips, a torch and maybe a half an hour.
