AK74 Front Sight Elevation Post Frozen - Help

The front sight elevation post on my Bulgarian AK74 is frozen stuck. I scraped some cosmoline out and sprayed WD40 down on the threads, but to no success.

I destroyed my new AK front sight tool too trying to adjust it counter clockwise. It will not budge. Don't know what to do next.

Also, it is obvious the UTG AK sight tool is a huge Chinese POS, so what is a real good tool to use to break the sucker loose?

Use a better tool. Try this one:

Dillon Precision: Reloaders, Reloading Equipment, Bullet Reloading, Bullet Reloaders

        It'll make all the difference.

The Magna Matic AKFST does both (with the exception on Yugos).

try heating it with a propane torch. if that doesn't work, put it in the refrigerator for a while then heat it again.

also, check out this sight tool for windage.

cost me only a few $ to make and it's probably 100% stronger than the one that claims to be 200% stronger than the competition!

Windage is fine. I'm just trying to get the damn post up about 2mm. On a side note, I just broke my Tapco tool too 2 minutes, back up to that crappy UTG one I had.

Frozen up threaded steel items sometimes call for the 3-part procedure that every old car owner/rebuilder has had to learn:

                  * Penetrating oil left soaking overnight. PB Blaster is cheap, available and works on most frozen bolts, you just have to clean the area near the threads to make sure capillary action will draw it in. Blasting it a couple times in a day and waiting overnight often is sufficient unless visibly rusted. Hopefully this is where the tribulation ends.

                  * Clean off the excess oil and use targetted heat. Propane or MAPP-Pro. Just the sight post, not the FSB body anymore than you can help it. Getting it to red hot is the recommendation for rusted bolts, but you may not want or need to go that far with the front sight pin. I'd go at least to blue hot and evaluate if you need to go any further.

                  * Bang it with a large headed punch once you've got it hot. Between the heating and beating its going to come loose whether it wants to or not.
