6 ton press for AK

I wanted too know if anyone has succesfully used the 6 ton harbor freight press on ak barrels.

Im in a apartment so the large 12 ton is problematic. The question, is it too much of a hassle using the 6 ton that it would justify getting the 12? I understand i need to drill a hole into my workbench and that is ok. This is my first build and user friendliness along with overall quality are the concerns.

The 6 ton will press flats and rivets. If you cut a hole in your bench you may be able to press a barrel out. It obviously won't be pressing barrels back in due to it't short length. You'll need to either use the toth-tool barrel install/removal tool in a vice or the allthread method.

The part that I think would be the most problematic would be the barrel pins. I have done some (mostly on original barrel romy G's and AMD65's)that made me nervous using a 12ton. I'd think the possibility of breaking the 6ton could be a serious concern in those instances.

I just helped a guy build a amd65 the other and your not kidding on the barrel pin...WOW

Any savings on hassle with the 6 ton will be lost when it comes to installing the barrel

And yep the neighbors will think your firing your weapon inside at tellophone books when some of the barrel pins pop

I've shattered press pins before, always wear your PPE when dealing with any press or drilling. I couldn't tell you how many times I've pulled chunks of shattered drill bits from my hands or arms.
