Need help with AK scope mount base installation

    Hi Folks,

I am starting my first solo build and I wanted to get some info on installing the side scope mount base. I've already done some research and now I have a couple semi-educated questions I'd like help with.

1 - Rivets - I bought my mount base from AK builder and the base did not come with rivets. I'm installing this on a standard Romy G. I know I'll be using the standard front rear trunion long rivet for the rear-most mount hole. The front hole looks like a standard short rivet but the middle rivet looks like it should be longer than what I've got. Anyone have an exact length for the middle rivet and maybe a lead on where to get it?

2 - Rear trunion front rivet - The long rear trunion rivets are swell neck rivets. When I dry fit things earlier the front rear trunion rivet will end up maybe 1/8th inch shorter then the rear. I'm thinking maybe use a drill bit to countersink hole a bit to account for the swell neck and maybe give me just a little bit of extra length to make the 2 rivets closer to length OR Use the swell neck side of the rivet for the right side of the receiver and just hammer the mount side of the rivet flat with a hammer? Thoughts/ideas?

Any additional tips, tricks, reminders or nuggets of wisdom would be appreciated.

    Thanks all

    Dan

I put one on a Romy G . I baught it from (Tantals) Collectors Source DFW.
It came with rivets That were the right size. If I remember right I had to make a button to press the center rivet and I turned the center rivet so the round head was on the outside and rested inside the hole a little bit.The other small rivet the round head was on the inside of receiver. My long rivet had the flat side on the rail. The CSDFW people are very nice and would not have a problem working with them again. I did not worry about not being dimpled for swell neck on the long rivet on the underneath of the rail.
I am pretty sure the long rivet that came with the rail was a touch longer than standard.
Start with the long rivet first and make sure you make the rail paralell with the top rail of receiver with calipers as you place the end small rivet next. Drill and set center rivet last. I came within .0015" doing this. Not too bad for a shade tree mechanic. Good luck!

What are you using for a receiver? How about tooling? Do you have the correct type rail? There is a special optic rail that's used for romy (2 hole rear trunnions) builds do to the hole pattern being different. Look up 69mach1's build party sticky, that'll get you started.
