    20 Rd PMAG Question/Idea

To start with I have tried to search for this, but its too much of a hassle with this slow Afghanistan internet.

I was wanting to know if anyone has used the Magpul 10 round blocks in a 20 rd PMAG and drilled a hole through the base plate / spacer block, then rivet it for "permanence". I have noticed there are multiple people that think a rivet isn't permanent and insist on using epoxy. I don't care about that for now. I'm just checking if anyone has tried this and how did it turn out? This seems like one of the easier, cleanest ways to block off a 20 rd PMAG. The rivet would be permanent enough for my taste and would not allow the removal of base plate without using a drill.

I really don't see the need for that. I used the blocks and you cannot get anymore then 10 rounds in it. If you remove the floor plate and took out the block it basically means you dont have a working mag anymore. The Internals consist of the follower, the spring, the locking plate and the floor plate. You are ditching the 20 round locking plate thingy and replacing it with the one designed to limit it to 10 rounds. No need to rivet the floor plate.

In order for it to hold more then 10 rounds you will need to disassemble the mag, go buy a the locking plate and install it. It would be permanent. I would probably throw away the 20 round one or minimum keep it at my moms house or something.

Yeah that makes total sense to me. It just starts giving me a headache when everyone has a different interpretation of the unclear law. I am active duty Mil so I have a ton of 30 round USGI and Pmags sitting around my house so im not worried about spare parts. I just want to make sure that the Mags I use for my personal rifle are good to go.

I guess technically you can break the arm on the limiter and still use the floor plate, wouldn't that make it an "evil" magazine again? I just ordered some 20 round parts kits and limiters, but I planned on pinning them.

You can "technically" do things all day long. I ordered some 20 kits and limiters also and im planning on riveting through the bottom just to avoid hassle. But I could "technically" drill it out. There seems to be no ACTUAL safe solution other then just using 10 rd mags.

The new 20rnd pmag's come with a hole for a rivet on the floorplate. No need to drill through the body. The older ones didn't, just drill through the Magpul logo on the floorplate.

That makes a lot of sense! I guess there is more than one way to skin a cat, although my way is bit uglier. You learn something new everyday, thanks!

                    I lean towards prc329's interpretation.

What is a legal 10 round FN PS90 mag as sold by FN? A 50 rounder with a long limiter type base plate just like the Magpul limiter installed. And those aren't riveted together.

There is no 'constructive possession' of a hi-cap mag.

But- I tend to lean on the paranoid side, so I'd go with a rivet to be safe if you're using it with a bullet button gun.

IMO a rivet is stronger than epoxy. Epoxy doesn't bond well to some plastics- want to bet I can't disassemble an epoxied base plate with a few taps of a ball peen hammer to crack the bond?

I appreciate the input. I also noticed that Parallax Tactical sells 20 rd PMAGs with that are blocked and riveted for only 22 bucks. pretty good price to not have to deal with hassle. Ive already ordered 3 20 rounders and the blocks, so I will go ahead and so it myself this time.
