Is there anyone in San Diego that can do this? I bought a rear and front sight for my Ruger 10/22 in 2018, bought it from a Calguns member. I managed to get the rear sight installed, but the front sight is not so easy for me.

Trying to find the pictures.
I noticed many people have troubles with the subject. The most problem, as it seems, is using a hammer and a punch. Thinking about it, I came up with a much easier and quicker way, which I called "3 nuts method" (I should patent it :) ). The way it works is: you take 3 M3 nuts (or #6 nuts). I happened to have -

I used double sided tape to give you the idea, did not want to glue for pictures.
As I remember you push to right for removing so you want the 2 nuts on right.
Using a vice just push on nuts making sure not to hit barrel.
The single nut is the one that will be moving allowing contact between vice jaw and barrel if you push to much.
Once broken free a brass drift or dowel can be used.
Hope this helps.👍 1Comment

Yes, but try fitting first.
Not all sights are the same size and the amount of force you can exert is very high.
Without being able to "feel" how much pressure you are using because of the vice.
Personally I would use a brass punch for install.
Video install starts around 5min.
I usually use wood with some old leather on top to support barrel but that is just me.
See plenty of people using a roll of electrical tape.
Had to get Medieval on my XD-9 to get the rear sight off.
The leather saved the slide finish.
Has the mirror of SPRINGFIELD permanently pressed into it.

The general rule for fitting sights is that you want to be able to push the sight half way into a dovetail by finger pressure before pressing it the rest of the way.
Stone the bottom or top as needed to get the sight to start into the dovetail based on where it is tight.Randall Rausch
