Need replacement for wood stock refinish

I used to refinish a lot of stock work on guns that were showing hunting wear, for myself and friends. After getting into my 80s and moving to the LA Slurbs, I haven't done much hunting for several years. But now my grandsons back in VA are getting of hunting age and I'd like to slick up a couple of age-appropriate smallbore shotgus for them,

I used to use a common stoch finish called LinSpeed and anither oil-based one made by (I think) Hoppes But when I tried to order these two the mfrs both refused to ship them to CA, citing some toxic (only in CA, it appears....)) ingredients.

What do you guys use for the final coats over the stained hardwood? I only need a amall amount, preferably premixed.

Thanks in advance for your info!

Amazon probably sells Linspeed oil in CA. Could go with the old standard Tru-Oil.

Food grade raw flax seed oil. Unlike BLO, the raw oil doesn't need thinning. It's a lot of effort but can produce great results if you're careful.

Thanks. guys! Amazon sent me a jar of TruOil--enough for a touch up of the stock and a coat to protsct the H&R "case color".

Real tung oil from China, not the crap they sell at the hardware stores that's advertised as tung oil. Real milk paint products sells it online.

There are a lot of products sold on eBay where the sellers are not aware of the CA shipping restrictions.
Do with that information what you will.

As much as I don't like eBay with their policies, it's that reason why I shop there for "Banned" items.

I have used this for years with good results CHEM-PAK GUN SAV'R CUSTOM OIL GUNSTOCK FINISH (brownells.com) Also comes in Liquid.
And if you want a high shine just apply and let dry for 4-5 days and buff with Fine Rubbing compound and finish off with Wax and buff
comes out a real high shine.

Many hardware stores sell spar varnish. Get a little can. Dilute some with mineral spirits in a resealable tupperware. Wipe on very thin coats and let dry thoroughly in between. It will be done in several coats/days.

Everyone has ideas on stock finish. My ideas are based on 50 years experience and over 100 stocks finished. The truth is the product does not matter much. Marine spar varnish will work perfectly. Any amount of gloss or not can be achieved. It is very tough.

I strongly suggest you do not use anything water based or linseed. There is a mythology around linseed that does not stand up to modern options. I am not here to tell anyone they are having fun wrong. Do what you want. I am just saying linseed is not a good choice. It never dries completely. It is not very water resistant. It will ooze out of the wood on hot days.
