    looking for local gunsmith

    question..........
I have a RAW that needs some work , does the gunsmith need to to be the
equivalent of an assault weapons dealer ? anyone in the sacramento area would be great ..........
    thanks

If it is a registered AW in California then yes only a Gunsmith with a AWP can work on it.

If it is a LEO/Military issued AW/MG gunsmith still needs a AWP or a MGP if full auto.

If it has the "evil features" and a detachable magazine, is not LEO/Military issued, and is not registered in California don't know of any gunsmith with a AWP that would risk their business to fix one.

is there a gunsmith in the area with the AWP I would not mind a little drive , dont think its a super big deal to fix ( the mag drops out after each shot ) it does take a beating
being 50BMG (and it is registered )
      any direction would be great

I thought that anyone could work on a RAW as long as they had a Ca AWP OR, the owner stays with the firearm while it's being worked on so that it never leaves his custody.

Replace the mag catch. If it takes a beating then the concussion of the 50 bmg is probably whats making the mag release drop the mag. Does the mag release feel loose in general? you might even be able to tighten the one thats in there down a little more as well. This is a very easy task and thats what I would check first.

I highly doubt. It has anything to do with using a 50 upper. I've put over 2000 rounds of BMG though my upper and know many others who've never had a problem. You should be able to switch the mag catch out yourself. It'll take less time than driving to a smith.

thanks , but would rather have a gunsmith fool with it, if there is someone in the sacramento area. over the years there has been a bunch of problems and cant afford the DROS every time even though its been a few years since the whole gun needed to go back (seems it takes a few tries to fix on some other problems ) would like someone local , I'm done with dealing the manufacturer

Call Sac Black Rifle and see if they can do it while you wait.

BTW, you don't need to reDROS a gun sent out for service. In fact, it can be sent directly to your doorstep.

its my understanding if a registered assault weapon is sent to a different state ( to manufacturer ) in order for it to come "back into the state "it has to be sent to a AWD and redrosed , anyway, thanks I believe the mag catch was a little loose was able to tighten it up I think , we will see gonna take it to oroville next weekend , show up and throw some big lead downrange on me .
                    thanks again

Your correct that a RAW would need to be shipped and received through a FFL with an AWP. But, no DROS should be required.

the mag release turns about 45 degrees to release , I have tightened a little I think but cant really tell untill its fired , I do notice it will turn the opposite direction about 15 degrees , and dont rememberit ever turning this direction at all ,my wife informed me that this sunday is out (I knew that!!!! ) so I'll try it the following sunday .....
