    Difference between AR receiver extensions

    Guys,

What is difference between different Milspec AR receiver extensions/buffer tubes?

As an example what does a VLTOR one offers that a DPMS one doesn't?

The VLTOR is a six position tube. The DPMS tube you linked is for a Fixed A2 stock.

Good catch! I updated the link to show the correct part number. Basically what exactly it is that the buffer tube costing 50 bucks offers (rigidity, durability) that the $25 one does not assuming both are "mil-spec".

the 6 position AR buffer tubes come in commerical and mil-spec.
google can explain it better than me.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Ones made by vltor the other by DPMS that's about it.

When it comes to AR parts a $200 upper or a $400 upper?? Both will do the job. It just depends on what you want and are willing to pay.

Please remeber that Mil spec means it was built by the lowest bidder

You mean the buffer tubes. Here's an excellent illustration of the differences between mil-spec and commercial tubes:

What would be a person looking for a. Long life and b. Rigidity (if the buffer tube gets bent, the AR rifle is useless) go for between VLTOR and DPMS?

Or are we just paying extra for the name tag on VLTOR?

ACE limited has a fully gusseted buffer tube as well. Just to add to the confusion.

I would think the Mil Spec version smaller tube Dia would tolerate/continue to work in a dusty/dirty/grit environment ad the larger thread dia. would afford a tighter/better fit/lockup/rigidity to milspec receivers.

My $.02 without having a mil-spec reciever/extension tube or buttstock dwg's. to review tolerances.

I forgot to add that its easy to add additional holes/detents/positions to buttstock tubes, more positions/length's helps out when teaching younger/smaller shooters to shoot AR's.
