    1911 feed problem

I just picked up my new SA1911a1 today. I went to the range and shot it. It shot great no problems.

I got home, disassembled and cleaned it. Put it back together and now it has a loading issue. I insert the mag, pull the slide and the round sets in the mag and does not load. I pull the slide back and release it one or two times and it loads. The then it is hit or miss with the loading after that.

    Any thoughts?

Slow slide speed can cause the issue you're describing. Are you letting the slide drop easily on the round or "sling-shoting" it?

Beat it like it owes you money. They respond well to that.

I do it both ways. I lock the slide back and release it. And I also pull all the way back and release it. Most times it take two time to load the round.

Try it with a different magazine and see if the problem persists

With the mag out and no ammo does the slide go all the way into battery easily?

I tried it with three different mags, and same. Tried it with two types of ammo. It function's properly with no mag, and with empty mag.

It almost seems like the ramp is off some how, even though it worked perfectly earlier.

Did you take the mags apart?
Is the top round nose-diving into the ramp or is it stuck in the magazine?

Is the recoil spring in the correct way?

I just took these. The slide is released and hanging on the round. I double checked the spring and it is on properly.

Has the bullet you're trying to feed gotten "setback" in the case? Visually the brass case one appears short from the picture but it may be an optical illusion.

How far apart did you take the pistol and did you change extractor tension at all? How many rounds are in the magazine?

                            The rounds are nose diving.
Many threads here on this....usually the fix is new magazine or mag springs.
(Hint: if you are handy, you can probably bend the current mag spring top loop in such a way to cause the front of the follower to rise higher, which will often fix this problem).

Yes, the brass round looks like it has set-back.

Is your extractor too tight or dirty....in other words the rim to the cartridge is not sliding underneath the extractor.
