    LR308 buffer tube

From what I've read, the LR308 receivers have a different buffer tube thread as compared to the .223 receivers. I've been hunting around, but can't find a LR308 rifle length buffer tube anywhere, only "kits" with more parts than I need. I tried Armalite's website, but they list the AR-15 and AR-10 as using the same part number rifle length buffer tube, which confused me even more.

Can anyone shed some light on why my spare .223 rifle-length buffer tube won't thread in to my TM 308 lower and where the heck I find the correct tube without all the extra parts I already have? This dang tube is literally ALL that's stopping my build from going together.

    THANK YOU!!!

you better look closer at the threads. i just finished a TM 10 and i used a spikes carbine buffer tube. the tubes are suppose to be the same. 223 and 308. its the springs and buffers that are different.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
    I'm Back.

Probably a worned tap was used in the machining. Use a 1-3/16"-16 tap to chase the threads. Borrow or take it to someone with the tap.

You probably have buggered up threads or a tube for something other than an AR15. I have an LR308 with a standard A2 receiver extension tube for mounting the PRS stock. I just checked my spikes tactical 6 position tube and it went right in.

The OP's problem is not unique. I've had at least 2 TM lowers with threads that didn't allow the extension to thread in without exerting a lot of force. Just chase the thread with the tap and you'll be good to go.

The thing is I don't think he ever tried a regular tube at all.

Try a standard tube and see if it fits. I have a tap if you need it.

Thanks for the sanity-check, guys. I checked the buffer tube in another lower to make sure that wasn't the prOblem and it went in by hand, no problem. I cleaned the threads on the problem-lower as best I could with a pick and wire brush. I added a touch of anti-seize. Put it in the vise and held my breath. It's in now and everything looks fine. It was just WAY tougher than I'm used to with these things.

              Thanks again!!
