    Need help Identifying this barrel

I suspect that this barrel I picked up was a mislabeled sale. Can anyone identify if this is a 223/556?

The barrel is 20" stainless that came with free float hand guards.

The only markings on the entire upper is on the barrel:
    SS
    W
    1/8

Looks possible hand-done. Could be a custom make?

I don't know, but any company that cant even hand stamp properly, I would not expect much from their machining and chambering job. I going to guess it means" Stainless steel" "Wylde chamber" "1 in 8" twist."

Thats a 1/8 twist stainless sterl barrel with wylde chambering. Its a tighter tolerance and is more accurate. It will shoot both 5.56 and .223. its a match grade barrel.

I have to disagree with everyone here.
Unless you know the manufacturer you have no idea what it is. That crapy stamp job is not in the correct format for a traditional barrel maker. It should be marked as follows
              5.56 wylde 1-8, 416 SS

As for the wylde chambering don't bet on it unless you can confirm from the manufacturer that it is in fact a wylde chamber a W mean nothing to me.
It pisses me off to no end these AR barrel guys not stamping a CALIBER mark on the barrel. Idiots. Order a barrel, An AR barrel from Krieger, Shilen, Lothar Walther and it will have a true caliber mark stamped on it.

Now if you want to confirm the rifling pitch rate use a cleaning rod and a tight fitting bore brush. Get it started in the barrel and mark the rod length wise and at the edge of the barrel. Then shove it in until it makes one Rev. mark the barrel again remove the rod and measure between your two lines that is your rough barrel pitch.

Agreed about the stamp job but some manufacturers are lazy. Those markings would lead me to believe that they are the specs I stated. I get some match grade barrels from a great manufacturer that are wylde chambered and the only stamp on it is 1/9ss or 5.56 1/9. I hear you though kcstott.. White oak or black hole weaponry or ER Shaw will stamp out the complete specs.

And don't get me wrong it may well be the specs stated. But would verify it with a chamber cast.
