Is it legal to build and fire a black powder cannon in California. I don't know if it makes a diferance but a small one maybe like a desktop model

Yes, if it is a muzzle loader, you can even build and shoot a full size one if you want.

I am not really a Black Powder guy but have friends who are so I have shot them (A few are even into full size cannons, but I have done that yet). A table top cannon is like a pistol (in both bore and barrel lenght), so for loads I would start there. You might also post in the C&R/Black Powder section and get more info. You may even find a local BP guy to help.

I have a six-pound smooth pre, fill-size(1,800 pounds) and all you need to shoot it is money... Or black powder and ammo...same thing.
I'll be at SacValley on May2nd, shooting it if you want to watch.

if you haven't found these sites yet, Traditions sells desktop models, both complete and in kit form.

And Dixie Gun Works sells desktop models, all the way up to full size. Just go to their site and search on "Cannon"

You might want to start with a blackpowder pistol or rifle first -- there's a bit of a learning curve for blackpowder. And they're lots of fun.

when I first got into black powder I bought this book:
