    Slide racker for XD

I've been working through the trick of racking the slide on the XD. Seems I'm all thumbs, and it's still pretty awkward to lock it back with the position of the lock being what it is.

My guy says I just need to practice, but then I read a thread somewhere about a slide racker. Unfortunately there were no specifics in the message.

Does this need to be installed by a gunsmith? Any advice would be appreciated.

The crew on Sons of Guns welded a special grip to the slide of a Glock for guy who'd become partially disabled due to MS. It looked kind like a twin tactical latch for an AR.
There's also this, but also for Glocks.
But unless you truly need a special setup, just keep practicing, and work on your grip strength:

Racking a pistol slide is 90% technique. You want to make sure you've got the palm of your support hand on one hand of the slide, and all four fingers gripping the opposite side. Then, rotate your shooting grip so your thumb is riding the slide stop. Then, instead of pulling back on the slide, push forward on the frame with your shooting hand.

Just telling someone to push the grip instead of pulling the slide has allowed nearly everyone I have taught to rack the slide every time.

Turo's method and practice is what you need. Alot of female shooters have issues whith this due to lack of upper body strength. Keep the gun close to your body. You lose all kinds of leverage the farther away it is. Just keep practicing.

Yep it works great, that's what I taught my 8 year old grandson with my XD. He racks it better than I can. Of course my friend Arti Thritus keeps getting in my way.
