    Plugging a butthole

Rather than running with MMGs, I have a couple of butthole stocks that I want to plug up.

In my searching here (yes I used the search button) I've found photos of rifles with this modification, and even some stocks for sale, but I have not been able to find a step-by-step how-to or even a material list for these stock mods.

I'd like to hear from some of the people who have done it. What materials would I need to do this? Are there any tricks I should know about before getting started? Is there anything you would have done differently?

oh god- the jokes will never stop!!!!!

But fwiw....if I'm catching what you're talking about...wouldn't a wooden dowl work? taper the end slightly, glue 'er up and cut flush; sand & finish.

Well, that's at least thats how it works on WOOD.......

But I'm not tooooo sure too many will wanna help a butthole
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

          Thumbhole, whatever.

I still think butthole is a more appropriate term for the style stock which connects the pistol gip with the rest of the butstock to avoid ther 1989 import ban.

            Serious answer:

            Two route.

            1) Use mdoeling clay, get a mold of the area, cut a piece of wood to match and simply cut it to size. You only have to shape the wood to fit on one side of the stock, than simply screw the piece of wood into the stock.

            2) Use modeling clat to make a rough mold with the stock (keep stock in the clay) than use marine poly sealent or any other type of hardening material you like and fill it in that way. Some types of rubber cements (dries hard) with reinforced wooden dowels work well, you only have to screw or nail the dowels into the stock before you pour to reinforce the area.

            Not so serious:

Wine cork works great to plug buttholes.

The reason it is called athumbhole because your thum goes in there. Butthole doesn't make sense since the hole is neither anywhere near the butt of the stock nor do you ever put your butt into the hole.

Thanks bobfried. Any recomendations on what hardening matterial to use in filling up the hole?

Is the marine poly sealant something like epoxy? I'm looking to do this on the cheap. I have two stocks, one wood, one plastic. And I'd like to be able to reverse the mods in case I ever want to sell the rifles in the free world in there origonal conditions.

I wouldn't plug a butthole without written consent. Look what happened to Kobe Bryant.

depends on the size of the stock

The cheapest way is to use 3M Window Weld, it dries of reasonably hard and is black so it's a bit more tacticool. You want to fill the space mostly with wood or another filler material that's structurally sound than apply the stuff around the filler. First off you want to apply wax to the stock (candle wax is fine) than wrap it in seran wrap. Than use modeling clay to create a pour mold using the stock (you want to make a little bowl in the area that needs to be filled in the existing stock) and pour the initial layer of the stuff, than put in your filler material (thin piece of wood shaped to the stock opening is awesome) than more stuff on top to seal it.

The trick here is to make a TWO piece system. All stocks has a natural hump on the inside portion, use that as the middle point, when you pour the first side make sure you do not go beyond the point where the stock (laying on it's side) inside diameter begins to slope upward again. Once it cures, remove the one side, flip and repeat. Than simply screw the two pieces together and you have a tight seal.

The epoxy you use should be hard yet slightly rubbery since wooden stocks will shrink and expand slightly in use.

What gun is the stock for? I've used wood to plug my FAL and AK stocks. Doesn't look great but gets the job done cheap.
