    Choosing a Gun Vise?

I am looking for a gun vise for use when cleaning my rifles (bolt, traditional wood stock and AR) and shotguns, installing scopes, and performing maintenance.

I've seen the Tipton gun vises and have seen various units in pictures and YouTube videos.

Are there any gun vises that can also be used on the range to zero a sights (22LR, 556 and perhaps 308) as well?

    What do you guys recommend?

You don't use a vise to zero your sights especially on a .308 or larger That's a very easy way to crack your stock. If you clamp you rifle up so tight it has no place to go when fired the stock will take the brunt of the force and will develop a crack in the wrist.

There are sleds and three point bench aids that are designed to hold a rifle to be shot.
Then there are gun vices that are designed to hold your rifle while cleaning.
few can be used for both.

I hadn't seen combinations so I figured as much..

Any preferred gun vise for cleaning, bore sighting and maintenance? I've been wanting a vise of a while and it seems the time to buy one as I plan to install a scope on the new 10/22 in the next week or so.

I have a tipton cleaning stand the one with the forks front and rear with the handle in the center.

I also have a tipton vise.

Now when I bore sight I do that out of the vise with bolt guns. I pull the bolt clamp the gun in the vise sight down the bore at a target 50 to 100 yards away. Then adjust the scope or iron sights to center.

For shooting off the bench I have a adjustable three leg rest with a leather bag front and rear. It's all I've ever needed. The three leg rest is a new addition as I us to shoot of a piece of oak with a leather bag on it. Lost it so I found a cheap rest and called it good.

I don't shoot off the bench other then to dial in sights and dial in a load. Other then that it's all off hand or prone

I have been looking at the Tipton vises, as well as the cleaning tray unit as you described. There is a tackle box unit with the V holders like your cleaning tray as well. I'm wondering if the "Best Gun Vise" for another $25 had any real value over their $70 gun vise. I would like to buy something that will last a bunch of years and provide solid support for any of my firearms.

that vise wasn't available when I bought mine. If I had it to do over again I'd get that one as I do have two AR's and that would make a nice fixture to clean them.

The tackle box is a good deal as well. I need to get the empty on as i already have enough stuff to fill the box twice.
