"AMD-65 rail" don't remember what it cost, but went right on with no problems. I'm gonna take it out for the first time next Thursday if you live near your welcome to come

          nice build
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

That's a UTG rail. Centerfire has 'em for $60 plus shipping IIRC.

so the only ones that would fit would be those marked amd rails?

bumping to ask a specific question; so the only ones that would fit would be those marked AMD rails? or will a draco or krinkov handguard work. [ on a AMD pistol]

The kit in question will accept standard stamped AKM (most AKs) lower handguard. It will NOT accept any upper handguard without modification. Here's the one I built about three years ago:

NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor
                    California DOJ Certified Fingerprint Roller
                    Ventura County approved CCW Instructor
                    Utah CCW Instructor

Offering low cost multi state CCW, private basic shooting and reloading classes for calgunners.

I have an AMD-65 kit that I'm planning to do the same handgun mod when I build it.

Take a standard gas tube, cut it down so it's 1/8" longer than the AMD tube and flare the end with a 3/8 socket extension. You might want to heat up the tube with a torch before flaring. Sand down the edge to fit the gas tube.

Also the AMD lower handguard retainer has two pins. You'll need to either drill two holes in your new lower handguard or remove the pins.
