    MIL-A-8625F Type III class 2

I just finished machining my 80% lower and am ready for hard anodizing. Would there be any interests for those that are local in the south bay for a group rate anodizing? I'll have to check with Arnold on the run size but the price of $150 includes prep (sand/bead blast) and type III hard anodize for one run (multiple lowers).

You mean $150 for a batch of how ever many fit in, or each?

From what I understand from the OPs post, its $150 for one run, one run has multiple lowers but he doesn't know how many lowers.

I'd be interested, would need a heads up so that I could get some lower milled and prep'd

I'm interested since I have to drive anyway.

Thanks for the clarification goldfinger, the cost of one run will include multiple lowers. If there is enough interest, I'd like to get a list of people together. I will call arnold to find out how many lowers he is willing to take in one batch. http://arnoldmetalfinishing.com/anodizing.html

Make sure you take note of what material each lower is milled from. While most are 7075, some are 6061. Makes a difference when anodizing.

Sorry for the delay folks, Aaron did not get back to me today but I am running a few quotes. The request was submitted on the basis that the material is 7075-T6.

                      Here's the RFQ i received from A&E Anodizing http://aeanodizing.com/index.html

Ok here is your price for bead blast and hard black anodize the price for ten pc is
17.50 but I recommend you to plug any threaded holes, otherwise the bead blast will damage the threads. And if we only do hard black anodize without bead blast the price is 13.50 each.

Let me know if you have any other question. Also Laura will send you a quote number for your reference.

                      Thanks

                      Liz.

At the company that i work at, they use foam ear plugs to plug holes and threads to mask areas to be free of paint, i suppose the same can be done for sandblasting.

Foam earplugs work well. We typically use SHCS's with o-rings under the heads.

Couch, do you use a giant screw to protect the buffer tube threads? I was thinking of looking through the bins at OSH for a cork of that diameter.

Just remember, these are completed lowers. assuming the plater does not have a FFL, you would have to be onsite while the work is being done.

Or at least that's how I understand it.

I'd love to get in on this to save money but not looking for black. Probably going with cerakote. ANyone intersted in colors? I'm looking for something like a nice bronze/ burnt bronze.
Don't have Activejunky yet? Use this, we both get $10.

Jingerale, the platers do not have an ffl and this just means I'll have to negotiate a waiting service with the platers.
