    MILL AND LATHE PACKAGE DEAL

So I have an opportunity to pick up a mill and also a metal lathe. There's an elderly lady in my community that lost her husband sometime last year. He was an avid machinist and small engine builder. She told me he would build small model engines and even built a small 6 cylinder engine that he would show off to his friends and at trade shows. There are drawers of stuff that I don't even know where to begin on explaining what it all comes with. I currently have a mini mill that I play around with occasionally, and was wondering if I could get some of your opinions on what you see in the pics. She wants $5000 for both the mill and the lathe, which includes a ridiculous amount of tools for both of them. There's also lots of metal stock, including steel, aluminum, and brass. Drawers of drill bits, end mills, boring bits, ect, ect. There's also a metal cutting saw as part of the package. I don't want to take advantage of this lady and want a fair price. I also don't want to overpay for this used stuff. Everything looks to be in really good shape. The mill has an auto feed. Care to explain? And if I decide to pass this up, I will let anyone know who to contact if they are interested. Thanks in advance,

    Skkeeter.

The mill is a Seig X3 clone. Good mill. $1250 brand new. The Lathe looks to be a G4002, about $2500 brand new. The mill looks to have power feed and possibly a cheap DRO on at least 2 of the axis.

As to your question, auto feed or power feed means you don't have to turn the hand wheels.

The real kicker will be the tooling and stock. If it is cheap chinese tooling it may not be worth nearly as much. If it is good stuff, US made, good shape, it can be worth a lot. It really is hard to say.

I would go take a look at the tooling and look for indicators my starret and other quality brands. Look for mills by niagara and other made in US companies.

If you buy it and want to sell off some of the stuff let me know. If you are close enough maybe I will drive out to take a look.

I'd say $5K would be on the high end. He may have had that much in but you seldon get it back out. & there sould be a discount just for moving all that stuff out

I suspect the Tooling is worth more than 5K, even cheap tooling will add up fast

Also the bar stock (brass particularly) is not cheap. so there is considerable savings there.

The little stuff in the drawers is where the big money usually adds up... (in my experiance)

I'd say its a fair price all around... possibly even a really good deal depending on what is hiding in the drawers.

If all that tooling is ChiCom I would offer less. If there is usa tooling, it may be a deal.

if she's going to give you all the associated tooling and stock shown in the pix, and the bandsaw, that's probably a good price. i'd say it's fair for both parties.
