so heres my issue, the safety worked fine until i installed a volquartsen target hammer. i kept the stock sear. the trigger pull is excellent now but safety is very unsafe. if you cock the gun and put the safety on then pull the trigger you hear a click, then if you try to take the safety off the gun fires. i dont want to leave it like this as it is unsafe. i hope someone has had same issue and can give me a remedy.

I want to make a side comment. I dont have VQ parts or a 10/22 but i have a MKIII and am right now looking at VQ mods for it. Im commenting because your issue, similar issues, come up on MKIII discussions. It seems the install was wrong. Some people re-install 2-3-4 times before all is right. According to everyone, the VQ mods work perfectly if the install was perfect and many times they are not. Did you take down the 10/22 and start all over? Often the specific issue can be spotted and corrected.
Also, look for VQ discussion in the Rimfire thread, tons of info and links there. Also you can re-pose your question there--but you might try a re-install first.
Sorry, im not a 10/22 or VQ expert, just trying to help, im learning too.Slim River Carry Slings for Henry AR-7 -
I would check and be really sure the disconnector spring is in place correctly.
I use short slave pins to pre-assemble this part of the lockwork before I drop it in, then push out the slave pins with the real ones when the sub-assembly is properly aligned in the trigger group body.
I would also check that the trigger return spring is stiff enough...sometimes these are so light to get a nice trigger pull they don't have enough pressure to help push the trigger back forward enough.
Something else that occasionally happens is to the safety button itself...when you hold it in the halfway on - halfway off position to slide the barreled action back into the stock, sometimes the safety button rotates to a position where it does not properly block the trigger or blocks the trigger all the time.
Too bad you are so far away, I love (hate?) puzzles like this.

i did try reinstalling it 2 times with same results. i will try reinstalling original trigger return spring since i changed that as part of target hammer kit also i will try to rotate the safety and see if it makes a difference. the kit did use a slave pin to hold sear disconnector and spring in place and i verified that spring was installed correctly.Comment

ok thats what i did right now and i found that its the new hammer has a smaller "step" where it catches on sear than the original. this doesnt hinder its operation but the sear has slight play where it contacts safety and since the new hammer has a smaller step it allows sear to let go of hammer step. i dont know how to remedy this other than possibly buy a new sear and custom fit it or live with very unsafe safety.Comment

Talk to Volks...either get them to replace the hammer or get a matched hammer and sear set.
Their hammer only kit should work with the original wobbly sear design everytime.
An unsafe gun is unacceptable.

so i emailed scott at volquartsen who replied immediately. he agreed that an unsafe gun is totally unacceptable. we attempted troubleshooting through email but were unable and so now my trigger group is on the way to him personally, he said he will resolve the issue and have it back in the mail the next day. i will post a followup once it is fixed, but so far the level of customer service i have received from scott and volquartsen has been the best i have ever had.Comment
