I'm looking for a gunsmith who can rebarrel a CZ 82 with a CZ 83 380 ACP barrel. Any recommendations? CZ-USA wants a couple hundred to do the job. I already have a registered in CA CZ 82 and don't want to have to buy a new CA legal CZ83. Any recommendations of someone to talk to? Northern CA - Bay Area would be prefered. Thanks.

Rebarrel CZ 82

Before you pay for this make certain you have good reason to do so. Unless you have a cheap source of .380 ammo it really doesn't make sense; 9x18 is a bit more powerful than .380 and it's cheaper if you buy your ammo in bulk.People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I'm not sure why I need a "good reason" to do anything to one of MY firearms. However I DO know the difference between a 9 Mak and a 380 ACP as well as at least a "couple of other calibers". Not being STUPID, I know about the ammo costs and I have a supply of 380ACP that will last me years.
I wanted to get a CZ 83 but I don't want to pay the price for a new one, the surplus ones aren't legal for import into Kommiefornica. I already have a CZ 82 registered in Kommifornica and the least expensive way to do things is to have the barrel conversion. My local FFL, only one in town, just raised his fees to $75. J&G has new CZ 83's for $349.95+20 bucks for the CA magazines+22 bucks shipping and my FFL will charge $75 for transfer, that's $466.95. I can have the conversion done by CZ for $200 on a pistol I already own, seems like a no brainer. So thats where I'm coming from, I was hoping to locate a competent gunsmith that is closer then Mesa, AZ., that I may hand deliver the pistol to who knows how to do the exchange, there is more to it then just knocking out the pin and swapping bbls. I already have 4 9x19 pistols, several 45ACPs and one new 380, plus a couple 9x18 pistols and at least a couple 9mm Largos as well. So I'm guessing I just don't care for the CZ in 9 Mak and would like to have the change done.
However all this is a moot point if I can score a RIA 9mm Tactical, if I do the Bulgie Mak and CZ 82 are both going down the road!

'Want' is a good reason if it's something you desire. You post in a manner suggesting you want to discuss an idea then get pissy when someone does so.
Do whatever you damned well please.

Pissy? No I just needed to explain where I was coming from albeit a lengthy one. To be told I have to "have a good reason to do something" to do something to property I own is akin to being lectured to and uncalled for. Possibly I mistook your meaning? I do appreciate the info from forum members, sorry I don't appreciate being lectured to.Comment
