mangled barrel hole on the TM 80% 10/22 receiver

So I'm new to and so suck at making 80% receivers, let's just get that admission out of the way now. Even with the TM jig I apparently cut the barrel hole off center on two different receivers using two different setups, and I had to file the barrel holes to get the barrel to visibly sit flush on that shoulder. I hoped it would all work out but went to the range yesterday and was sorely disappointed. The barrel was kicking lead out near the extremes of the scope low and left, while for a factory Ruger receiver all other parts the same the scope was pretty much near the middle of its range. Has anybody corrected this kind of issue?

      Offset barrel hole

      Sonny:

The TM jig is pretty good and I only questioned the takedown bushing size.
The barrel hole seems OK and the counter bore tight and could allow for an extremely small amount of fitting. Filing does not fall into this category though.

The bore is .6875" and the recess is .920". Difference of .2325".

Bore out the barrel hole about .100" to .7875" and press in a straight solid plug without any shoulder.
Only go this large to have virgin material for the barrel shoulder to rest on and not be able to press it in when tightening the V-block down.

Re set jig and carefully rebore the now blank barrel hole.
Actually I used drill bushings and drilled a 9/16" and then a 5/8" hole, then reamed using an 11/16" reamer. For the first step hole of 9/16" I made an extra long bushing to avoid drifting. I also used drill bushings for the V-block bolts too.

.001" off is not bad ......... I think this is really good with a jig setup so there may be something else causing the problem.

The TM counter bore is tight - probably to keep the barrel from flopping around and if tight on the bottom, all the better.

I have a factory spiral hammer forged barrel that measures .928" on the tops of the spirals that had to be turned off to fit and another older factory barrel also was tight.

If your barrel is sitting against the shoulder, it should be square with the scope rail ....... Possibly a V-block with a set screw may raise the target feedback up and closer to the bull..... and this is enough bull for one post..... LOL

if you do a little searching and you will find that some companies will bore the barrel hole out larger then thread the hole. your options for threaded barrels does become limited compared to the normal style but it usually fixes these kinds of problems. you can also press fit a plug and the rebore it like the other have said.
