    Best MP5/HK94 Flat

Is there a preferred flat for the HK94/MP5? I am building a G3 as well and have noticed the quality difference between PTR flats and Gehwehr flats. Is there a noticeable difference between the LSC and ORF mp5 flats?

Concerning the MP5/94 flats there was (3) manufactures which is down to (2) currently.

        LSC
        ORF
        SW

Most builders like the LSC due to mimicking the H&K platform the best. The other two require some work but can be made to work pretty easily, It's up to you which works best.

I like all of them and would ask a question as to which flat best suits your build requirement.

Are you going to stay as close to H&K as possible and/or are you going to modify it to your own spec's / needs? Answering the question will help me give you an opinion which is just that.

Actually there are/were 4 mfgs. There are MKE made flats out there too, but these actually take more work than any of those other ones to make right, and aren't too common. The only value of an MKE flat to a builder is if you need some sense of originality, which with 922R, doesn't make much sense anyway.
TB also sold off some of his earlier type SW5 flats on GB, so there are a handful of bastard flats out there.

Thanks for the replies. I went with an LSC flat and will largely be using HK parts, as funds permit.

Well I just got my LSC flats in the mail. Compared to the PTR HK91/G3 flats, I was very disappointed. There are 1/4" cracks on both sides of the rail where it meets up with the trunion. This was on both flats. I have provided pics. I'm pretty sure these flats will sheer along the cracks when they are run through a mandrel. Is this standard for the LSC flats? The quality control seems to be a bit piss poor for the most expensive MP5 flat on the market.

                  That looks unacceptable to me.

I'm working on an HK33 with a flat I bought from BMP this week, it had similar cracks, probably from the same supplier. No big deal, you're going to weld the trunnion in that area anyway, run the bead longer then grind it down to pretty it up.
Look at the large cutout in the PTR flat. They removed a lot of metal to keep the cracks minimized and you're going to fill them with weld too.

Mine is a little further along now, the cracks are gone.

That looks defective to me. Frankly I can't imagine anyone looking at that mess and putting in a box to ship it to you. Send it back for a replacement or a full refund. Have the seller check for the same defects on the replacement BEFORE shipping it. If you have already lost confidence with the seller, look elsewhere after obtaining a full refund. I would also ask them to cover the shipping because this could have been avoided.
