Thank you for the continuing input everyone. We do have .igs files on hand. The scanning is to determine ideal tolerances. Galling is a definite concern and at this point we are having to consider Ti rods, levers, releases, ect. Production costs are going to be very, very high. As stated by Kcstott, $1000 production cost, if we are lucky, and that is not including levers, rods and other items we may determine necessary. We are always open to ideas for ways to slow the slide recoil speed and save the frame, though we have quite a bit of time before we begin a Ti slide prototype.

I'd like to see an uncoated titanium frame with all matte stainless parts and slide.

Before I dive in with a "I'll buy one" comment, would you be able to say what grade titanium you guys plan on using first? I'm not quite sure why your production costs would be more than what Caspian is selling theirs for, but I'm assuming your production quantity is projected at a lower mark. Regardling the slide to frame information, I would speak to a gunsmith that has experience with ti 1911 frames. I know when I was looking for one, my gunsmith had more info to say thant what I could remember, and not all of it was good.

Ti is some hard metal. if you have mill problems I feed bad for you son. I have 99 problems but an endmill ain't one.

Ti frames are cool as hell. I would have made them but after you sit there and calculate how much it cost to how much you want to make with the current demand for a frame.. you realize the market for ti firearms just aren't there. It's just bragging rights to make. A lot of people can say they'd buy one. And yes we would buy one. When we have 700 to spare. However we would be in the price range for a sti 2011 frame now so.... I guess its all up to you to decide if its really worth the work.

If galling is a concern you might check out Tiodize (http://www.tiodize.com/anodizing.html). They have an anodizing process for Ti which is outstanding, no dimensional change. Available with PTFE (teflon) impregnated.

Ti is a lot more expensive than steel. Checkout Titanium Joes for pieces of surplus Ti.
Since it is a poor conductor of heat, you need to use very slow cutting speeds
or else you will overheat your tools.

We have 7 CNCs, and we work with Ti, so we have a what I would consider to be a reasonable knowledge of how to machine it. I believe we plan on using grade V, but I will have to check with my main machinist.

Please make a double stack. That is all.
