AMD-65 Hungarian Kit Barrel Conversion

The original AMD-65 was manufactured with a 12.6 inch barrel. Now most of the kits you find include 16.25" US manufactured barrel which I question.
Has one put one of these together and what extra parts did you need to change or what issues did you need to address?

What exactly do you want to build?

You can do pretty much anything here. Use the AMD-65 dimensions with it's short gas system and accompanying short(er) gas piston and gas tube. You will need to turn the barrel down at the point where the gas block is installed, and re-cut the handguard retainer slots on the barrel.

Or, build on the 16 inch barrel using the standard AKM length gas system. You will need a new standard length AMK gas tube, and replace the short piston with a standard length one.

The AMD-65 gas block is also missing the bayonet lug. You can replace it with a Romanian or Polish gas block. They are the most available.

You can also pick up a 14.5" barrel for it but for a rifle, it will need a muzzle device blind pinned bringing it to over 16".

AMD 65's are nice. I made a similar AKM 63 but in wood furniture and a ultimak.
