AK - Kit or completed rifle?

AK - Kits or completed rifles?

Haven't really been paying much attention to what's been going on in the AK(M) parts kit market, until today. Was surprised to see how much parts kits are going for now.

I've got a complete pre-G Romanian kit that I demilled a few years ago. Got busy, job, wife, kids, house etc...and never got around to building it.

I enjoy building things (heck, that's pretty much all I do around my house) and would enjoy building an AK type gun, but......How much time and effort and money would I need to put into the build?

Realistically, how much will I need to put into compliance parts, a receiver, rivets, specialty tools etc...to get this gun finished, properly.

Trying to figure out if I should part ways with the kit and buy a complete gun, or have someone build it for me, or build it myself?????

Bend a flat or buy a receiver?

    Build it.

AK-Builder is a great resource. Time would be all day at a AK TEAM build party and $60 for use of the tools ect.
    Ak Furniture $110 or so
    Rivets like 7 bucks
flat 20 or Nodak Spuds receiver (they are the best)
    Red star retainer 5
    Tapco FCG 30

That's about it. It's a lot of fun and if you like building things you';; really enjoy it

I keep thinking about all the $70 kits I walked past at gunshows, then I look at what they're going for now.

Even if i wasn't going to build then, I still should have bought a bunch.

Realistically it's around a grand for all the tools to build one. If you cant can see other uses for the tools or dont already have them, plan on building more than 3. Best option is a build party.

What's the going rate for having one built?

The price of kits has gone up but the supply has really gone down.

The day may come where kits really dry up and if you want a AK's you'll choose between WASR's and Saiga's

Some people want something special and different then the guy next to them at the range with a Saiga.

All right I would build one it a ton of fun at an ak party you meet other calgunners eat food build guns when done have a beer.

I would do an ak build party the price for tools would kill it money wise.

Time you would be looking at would be about a day to crank you out a working gun, 2 if you want to put a finish on it and work out all the bugs to full. But if you know how to use tools and quick learner you could work out the kinks your self at home.

Now price you got the kit which is the most expansive around0$ 320-350.

Ak builder flat which is $20 which is 1 of your 6 compliance parts

                  ak rivets which are $9

Tapco trigger pack which is $30 and 3 of your 6 compliance parts

Tapco pistol grip which is $10 and 1 of your 6 compliance parts.

slant muzzel brake which is $10 1 of your 6 compliance parts.

That would be your 6 compliance parts.

Add a mag lock which can run from $25-35

About $100 total give or take.

There is a build party in concord in march i`m not sure if it`s full, but pm chiz to find out.

ok, so here is a dumb question ??? how legal are this things (parts kit) here in Kalifornia? you know with the Kessler list and the rossi and the 922r and then all the ak series talk, my head hurts !!!! I know some guys say "go buy one" at the local shop and there are some that state (ak clone) and maybe that is the fact that makes them legal here in Kali.
I have been eyeing a underfolder parts kit since they were like around $150.00 (now about $250)
I've done some research and some of the estimates are correct in saying if you build it at home is right around $800 to $1000. and if you buy it at the store is from $500 to $900, but cost aside, the idea of building my own is: it would not be in any registration sheet and there is no paperwork saying I own one. NOW PLEASE, do not get me wrong I am a law following citizen I can legally own a gun in the US and just recently I got me a mosin nagant from big 5
It's just the idea of big brother declaring a state of emergency and then martial law and picking up my guns kinda scares the crap out of me (remember Katrina and Louisiana gun owners or King S.Carolina).
I mean I know having a fixed magazine makes it a non A.W. and big brother says I can make my own as long as I do not sell it EVER and as long as I follow the 922r parts thing I should be ok they go as far as saying there is no need for a serial number on the receiver although they recommend one in case it ever gets """"stolen""" .
I would want to take it out to the range so my question is does it have to be registered here in Kali? does any one here have experience that would like to share GOOD OR BAD, I would really appreciate it
                      Thanks.

                        Buy = $300-$1000 = guaranteed/warranted.
                        Build = $750-$1000 = You built it.

If you are building just one or even two. Don't waste your money.

The mag locks for ak keeps me away from building any more. I'm over it. PITA to reload.
If you seek peace, prepare for war

                          Follow 922 and you're fine.
These parts kits are no loner firearms when you purchase it, the receiver has been cut according to ATF requirements. Buy your American made part/receiver (or bend a flat), assemble and you're GTG.
