    Prices for AR work?

    Hey everybody,

I'm looking into having a gunsmith change out a free-float handguard and a gas block. Obviously, there will be work removing the muzzle and such but I'd like to know what you guys paid for such things done to your ARs, if you went to a "professional" to do it.

    Thanks

About the same as it would cost you to buy the tools and do it yourself.......
Unless the muzzlebrake/flash hider is pinned.

40.00 to 150.00 depending on variables

If the gas block is not pinned, then removal just requires an allen wrench.
Handguard is removed with a strap wrench available at harbor freight.
Muzzle device, if not pinned is also very easily removable.

Ok guys I need to bring this back up...

Any smith in the area doesn't even respond to my emails, and the last place I called gave me a stupid price tag. I'm almost done dealing with shops.

Does anyone want to help me with this?????

I've spent over a month with this stuff and still haven't gotten anywhere. It's like I just wasted money buying new parts.

Rifle Gear in Orange County, CA quoted me $35 to do mine. I would have gone with them except their gunsmith went on vacation so I had someone else do it. Looking back, I should have waited, morons at the other shop forgot to tighten the gas block and didn't clean the bolt like I paid them to do.
With all this "gun control" talk, I've not heard one politician say how they plan on taking guns from criminals, just law abiding Citizens.

That's an awesome price that I would pay up front without hesitation... but I'm in Northern California.

If only I could find a place like that up here.

I've had my complete upper dissembled for me for free, I rebuilt it myself.

Just find someone to help guide you and do it yourself. It's not hard and you'll end up knowing a lot more about your rifle when you're done. I've only broken down one upper before but, it was easy enough to do. BTW, I did exactly what you want to do and it took less than an hour.

I wish I could find somebody like that, but nobody wants to help.
If I had the tools I really would. I actually tried to take off the muzzle, but it was too tight.

All I know is that he did everything I needed in his garage and I'm satisfied with the visual results. But, I'm waiting for a field test this weekend before I say anything else. Who knows how far the gas block can fly if it isn't pinned properly
