    Cannot assemble this fr@&@@ bipod!!

Got this not-yet-assembled tantal bipod from Copes. For the life of me I cannot put it together. The spring is really tight and I cannot find a way to hold everything in place while installing the inner and outer pivot things.

Any suggestions will definitively be welcomed!

use a pair of vise grips to hold the spring legs together while you put the pin in.

bleh that thing looks gnarly....make sure you have some good eye protection on, maybe use a cutting wheel to make notches in some pliers so the spring has a place to sit.

I would think the safest and easiest way would be to use two good lengths (8" or so) of 1/4" steel tubing to compress the spring with as if it were closing the bipod its self.
After doing that, tie the ends to keep it compressed so you can lay it within the assembly as you install and set the pivot pins.
When finished, just pull the tubes straight off and the spring will snap in place.
Be sure to hold or tie the bipod from springing open and causing any problems when you do it.

Hint, slave pin. Find something that is smaller then the hole and use that to get everything in place before going up in size until you get to the correct pins. It's hard to explain on a keyboard.

Can't do it! This spring is very tough to bend. I'll probably end up bringing it to a build party and do it there. Arghh!

If you can bring the legs of the spring together use a ziptie or bailing wire to keep them from spreading and then put in place.
