I did end up test firing it anyway by single-loading rounds in the chamber. Here are the pics of the casings:

I'll take a stab at the bolt camming problem, I bet your left side rail isn't in perfectly square ( the ejector might be pointing up slightlyand the the slot on the bolt is riding up as it passes the tip of the ejector.

That looks like a homebuilt receiver. Sometimes the rails are trimmed to much and they will not guide in the bolt. What happens is the bolt jumps out because nothing holds it in the receiver. Another thing, that vintage kit,1983ish, the Romanians let the quality control go. Check and make sure the gas block/gas tube is guiding the bolt carrier in strait and not off to one side. To really know though, I would have to see it in action.

            good luck

Look at the rails you welded in, are they at 90 degrees? Ho much gap between the trunion and the front of the rail?

When you cycle it by hand are you using the recoil spring to let the bolt close or are you riding it with your hand? Let the spring do it, pull it back and let go.

Did you trim the ejector enough? maybe it's a little to long/tight and is causing the FTF.

Your left side rail looks to be too high from the photo, if your rails are too high (or one high one low)
the bolt will ride over the mag without picking up a round, that would also account for the lug being over the lip of the receiver. Place a drill bit on the rail and see if it lays flat from the rail to the trunnion, the rails should run on level
so the lug rides smoothely without a jump or dip into the trunnion.

Bring it by, no matter the problem it CAN be fixed. Nice grouping from the M1 carbine

I had the problem with the bolt hitting the trunion when a jammed round bent the rail down. I had the same problem with rounds jamming like that due to a bad mag.

All of your problems could result from an excessive receiver height (top rails not bent down enough).

It's a little unclear but looks like a screw build; a suggestion would be to remove the front trunnion and fire control group, lock a 1.25" flat bar between the upper and lower rails, and hold the receiver in a padded vice.

If you have a brass bar it can be used to absorb hammer blows and allow the upper rail to be smoothly bent a bit further.

An indication things are back in spec can be performed by reinstalling the fcg and sliding the bolt and carrier with the trigger pulled. The disconnector should catch.
