    Ruger 10/22 80%

I just noticed Tactical Machining is offering an 80% 10/22 on their site!

    No jigs yet.

Anyone have experience machining a 10/22? I've done a few AR's already, wondering how it compares.

I'm thinking of getting an AR-10 & 10/22 from them as my next projects.

I've done a razor receiver.... Most everything is very easy with a good precise mill. But in many ways they are less forgiving than hacking out an AR FC pocket.... The barrel pocket has to be dead nuts accurate to produce a good rifle. This is not a drill press build. If you do it and mess up the barrel hole, pm me and I'll share my expensive solution.... I like the Razor design better than TM, but I think TM's machine finish might be a bit cleaner.....

The jigs will be out in a couple of weeks and will make easy work of it.

      I have 5 waiting on a jig.

My mill is so-so - it's an x2 mini mill, but I have been able to get good accuracy out of it by going very very slow.

I have a much much better lathe, looking at the barrel pocket, it seems like a lathe would be ideal for this.

I think i'll call TM after the holidays and find out more about the jig they will be offering.

With our jig prototypes I did mine at the BP all most completely on a drill press. The only reason I used the mill to do the barrel hole was that the drill press's were being used and that's it. A lot of the guys used the drill press for this as well.

The only other thing on the mill was I cut a sight channel in the pic rail so I could use stock irons, this obviously needed a mill.

              My experience with a Razor

I am definitely going with a TM next time. The deburring was absolutely horrible on the Razor and required extensive work to make it acceptable to me.
