    Nodak receivers?

Does anyone know if Ammo Bros still sells Nodak receivers? If not, does anyone know of a store who does? Trying to avoid spending almost double what the receiver costs in order to have one shipped.

    Thanks,

Why not get a flat and bend it? Cheaper, and no FFL/fees....

I don't know what ammo bros pricing was like, but generally when I've seen NDS-3 receivers(assuming that's what you're looking for) in a shop they're $110(ish)+tax and DROS. remember the shop needs to mark it up to turn a profit. So you're looking at about $155

An NDS-3 is $60 shipped. Lets assume your FFL charges $50 transfer fee that's still $110+DROS but you haven't paid tax on it. So now you're at $145. If the transfer fee is less then you stand to save a decent amount.

It might be worth calling them to see what their fees are. You might actually save a few bucks by ordering it yourself.

because NDS are completely heat treated receivers

your flat + center support + cost for proper heat treatment, now you are looking at almost the cost of a NDS-3 receiver.

I assume OP is in the OC or IE area since you mentioned ammo bros. FYI, I failed to find any NDS receivers locally, had to order from NodakSpud and transfer at riflegear.

There are FFL's that will just charge the DROS fee, you have to look.

An FFL that doesn't charge a transfer fee for receiving a firearm? I call bullsh*t. Or are you saying they're not charging sales tax on an item for sale in their store which they themselves are required by law to pay sales tax on?

Heat treatment is something that can be done for a very reasonable price if you get in with a group so that a min order of about 6 receivers go into the oven at the same time. The end result will be as good or better than the NoDak with a 40-42 HRC final hardness. An automotive suspension spring is about 30-35 HRC, a typical knife blade is 50-55 HRC to give you some idea. This is a good compromise between peak hardness and toughness.

OP might be looking for a PSL receiver. I haven't seen any PSL flats available, other than the 80% receivers which I understand are difficult to get right.

Edit: what happened to the NDS PSL receivers, I swear they used to make them...

NoDak did a run of flat back PSL receivers for TGI. They can still be found on occaision. Try Waffen Works to see if they have any left.

No worries. Totally relaxed here Also, pretty far from a cowboy. For the record, I hate country music with a passion.

What I am is flat out amazed that you've got an FFL that's willing to accept a firearm, do the transfer for you, and all he makes of the deal is $5? He's either the nicest person in the world or a complete idiot. If he's in the OC area you really should clue in the OP could save him a bunch of cash.

I agree. Thanks for the replies guys. I usually do transfers through riflegear. I was under the impression that to transfer the receiver (legally a firearm) through them after this month would cost me $100+tax. Am I missing something. I wouldn't mind paying 50ish or more if I could find it. Any references? $35? tell them I will buy them a beer or two as well.

If you order the receiver directly from NoDak Spud my understanding is since they are out of CA you aren't required to pay tax. Just the FFL's fee for accepting the rifle(if they're charging you $100 for this you need a new FFL), $25 DROS, and maximum $10 storage fee to the FFL.

I was at Ammo Bros. last week and they had an NDS-3 on the shelf for $109 + DROS + sales tax (approx. $145 total). I ordered an NDS-1 from NODAK a couple of months ago and had it shipped to Riflegear. It was $85 + $15 shipping + $50 transfer + $25 DROS ($175 total). I don't remember paying sales tax.

The NDS-3 is a good receiver and the NDS-1 is a much better receiver and, in my opinion, worth the extra $30. However, you will need the drill jig to align the trunnion holes for the NDS-1. Building from flats is the most cost effective but can get complicated if you don't have access to the bending jig, drill jig, and a way to heat treat.

Long story short, yes, Ammo Bros. has the NDS-3 in stock. At least they did last week.
